During the debate last night my friend texted me…

“Interestingly the women have more substance in what they are saying but the evangelic and passionate speaking style is what captures attention…

Media training is everything!”

She’s Right and Wrong

She might be right, “The women have more substance…”

And it’s irrelevant.

That should have been obvious after Hillary vs. Bernie vs. Trump.

The Dems should have learned from Barack that policy and 7 point plans are a losing strategy. (come on, Elizabeth, you’re a smart woman)

My friend is right.

But she’s wrong, this isn’t about media training…

This Is A Game Of Influence

Media training is what the talking heads do.

They seem personable while reading like a parrot.

They sit right.

Wear the right colors.

Speak eloquently.

Media training is for looking and sounding just right…

But that’s hardly how you’d describe Bernie, is it?

Or how Donald won.

Goldman CEO’s Advice To Summer Interns—Translated

Goldman Sachs CEO David Solomon knows about winning.

He’s well proven it in his own career, in the businesses he’s run, and now in the way he runs the firm.

He, deeply, gets what it takes to win, and shared some advice with summer interns.

Of course he’s being subtle, so let’s translate it…

1. Be yourself

We believe who you are makes you better at what you do. Share your interests and viewpoints with your teams – we value our people’s unique experiences and perspectives

Translation: Don’t be yourself, be your self the firm needs you to be. Be the version of you that leads people to like you—e.g. never say “I’m only here to make money”—gets people wanting to work with you and conveys you are the right “fit” for the team. Agree profusely with other people’s viewpoints and only supply your own when they’re acceptable to others and CLEARLY add MASSIVE value.

Example: “That’s a great idea. I really like the way you’re thinking about it. When I was in football camp I heard the coach say something as brilliant as that. I’ll crush this, then let’s figure out what more value I can add to the team.”

Then I went to her website.

Nope, that’s her slogan…

Not quite as bad as Jeb! or Make Herstory, but nor quite as good as Vote For Pedro.

Did you see this movie with Tom Cruise?

It’s an interesting take on the alien invasion story.

And a powerful metaphor for living our ultimate days.

Long Story Short

Alien invaders are wiping out the human race.

Tom Cruise, playing a poor soldier, blows himself up, taking an alien down with him.

But then he wakes up again.

It seems blowing himself up with the alien “infected” him with the ability to reset time.

Each time he dies he starts again the same day.

Get It Right This Time

Each time he comes back to life he gets to do it better.

To train more.

Develop more knowledge.

Become more skilled.

To end the alien threat first before it again ends him.

Lefties like to think he won by inciting angry voters…

Yet ironically they are the ones left with all the anger.

How many people have made their lives worse because Trump is president?

It’s shocking “grown-ups” wake up every day filling their heads with misery worrying about something they can’t control.

They might feel right, yet they’re the ones left whining.

Focus On What You Can’t Control

Adults know that wasting your life worrying about what you can’t control is a miserable way to die.

Yet how many of us, addicted to the media cycle, guzzling Trump whine, have ruined the last few years of their life?

How many of them feel justified?

Well, he just sucks so much.

Yeah, he took over the country and your life by getting you talking about him every day.

In reading about Wonder Woman I discovered this fascinating truth—

Wonder Woman was created by American psychologist and writer William Marston, artist Harry G. Peter, Marston’s wife, Elizabeth, and their life partner, Olive Byrne.

Hmm, what did they mean by life partner, I thought.

Olive Byrne, who partly modeled Wonder Woman, lived with Marston and his wife.

Each woman giving birth to two of Marston’s children.

Sexual Taboos

Even way back in the 20s the creators of Wonder Woman were busting sexual paradigms.

In fact, Marston, using Byrne’s research—she’d been his research assistant—published a paper on sexual taboos.

Wonder Woman was more empowered in the 20s than men and women today.

Like it’s perverted people ask me, “How can you create a program for meeting your most amazing woman?”

What Rajs, Hedge Fund Scammers, And College Scammers All Need

That headline is my longest ever…

Coz that’s what I think Raj’s sentence should have been—longer.

The guy has the gall to come out of prison and still claim to be innocent in handing off insider secrets to the other Raj.

But that’s only the short of it.

The Long Is How Many Were Doing It

I don’t blame Raj and all the hedge fund scammers.

Like Lance Armstrong and the sport of cycling, to win a highly competitive game, you expect some to cheat.

Especially when the upside is so high, and the downside is so low.

Make billions of dollars with a tiny risk of getting caught and serving a short sentence?

Everyone on the inside knows this is how some of the biggest got big.

Maybe it wasn’t overtly “insider,” but their edge was non-public information.

College Scamming Is The Same

“Cheating” is a squishy definition.

Obviously you can donate a lot of money and get your kid into a school.

And of course there’s more than one organized racket out there.

Yet, where does the fine line of helping your kid do better in school end, and cheating begin?

Having a tutor is very reasonable, yet something poorer kids can’t afford. Nor a college admissions advisor.

Let alone the many who “brainstorm ideas” or “edit,” let alone straight up write your kid’s admission essays for them…

Growing up we’re told we can do what we want…

Well, how many of us are doing what we want?

How many of us have the careers we want?

The business we want?

Are living the lives we truly want?

How many of us even have a grand vision for our life we’re every day advancing?

Not many. Not enough.

How many of us can even answer the most “obvious” question…

What Do You Want?

In my experience few of us even know what we want.

I’m not just talking about young people, but many later in life are still waiting to figure out what they want when they grow up.

I’m not just talking about the big questions either; the small stuff is hard enough too.

Do you stay in your job or retire? Keep working for the man or start something of your own? Get married or have a harem 🙂

No matter the question, it’s the “Structure of Choice” that keeps many of us stuck.

Question That Started This For Me

I know this all too well for it was the question that started all this for me.

For about 10 years I asked this question.

Reading thousands of books only seemed to make the question more complicated.

Goals. We know we should have them, but with crappy goal-setting advice it’s hard to even get pointed in the right direction.

Over a decade of doing this work for myself I not only answered my question but built a system for all of us to answer.

Since they failed to beat Trump in the election, the Dems have put in all the stops.

With a name like Democrats one might presume they believe in democracy, but all they’ve done is resist the president the country elected.

I’m not saying he’s irresistible…

There’s plenty about him that’s resist-worthy.

Maybe Mueller’s deep probe will reveal something that every Cold War movie implied but even Cohen denied…

Maybe dragging Trump’s lawyer in front of Congress and airing his dirties will achieve their goal of bringing him down.

It’s certainly bringing the country down, but will unlikely even stain Trump.

And, even if they did, how do they expect the half of the country that doesn’t buy the New York Times respond?

You know, the ones with all the guns…

Almost certainly Trump will go on, and then, in 2020, the Dems will get their chance to…

Lose Again

We’ve heard lots of excuses for why Hillary lost, but the only factual one is that she was beat by a better combatant.

Not being political, just factual.

Her one-eyed fans don’t want to see it.

Point out the obvious that she ran a mediocre campaign—Awful slogans. Weak messaging. Zero skills of influence—and the anti-bullying bullies bully in force.

Anyone with one eye can see Hillary could and should have won.

But like the 16 Republicans Trump thrashed, what did she learn from losing to Barack?
