Just like this notion that you only use 10% of your brain.
It sounds all fancy.
And plenty of fiction, such as movies like Limitless and Lucy, is based on unlocking the remaining 90%.
But what does it mean?
You can trace the myth back to…
Articles suggest it comes from this vague quote by the father of modern psychology, William James—
Compared with what we ought to be, we are only half awake. Our fires are damped, our drafts are checked. We are making use of only a small part of our possible mental and physical resources.
So you see, there’s apparently little to it.
Yet, directionally, it’s certainly true we only use a fraction of our potential.
Whether that’s 10% or not, who cares?
Let’s talk about what it means.
Or, at least, in my view, a valuable interpretation!
90% of your potential is distracted away
That’s how I see it.
90% of the potential of the greatest machines on the planet is wasted.
Meaning the most valuable resource on the planet—human potential—is almost entirely drained of value.
It’s easy to see how, right?
Talk to the average person.
Look at how they use their time.
They’ll be wondering why their life is a fraction of what they want.
Why their mind is all over the place.
Yet, just ask yourself, what percent of their time is focused on what truly matters?
What about your 90% potential?
How much of your focus is directed into what truly matters?
And, here, you know me, I’m going to make a powerful distinction that many people NEVER want to hear.
No matter how important you think a topic is…
If you have zero influence over it, well, that’s your focus 100% wasted.
Such are the days and nights of nearly all of our species.
90% of the time, 90% of their focus, distracted away.
Billions of lives wasted.
Immeasurable human potential lost in the dust.
Unleashing 100% potential
If you could drive 100% of your focus into what matters most, what is possible for you?
What ISN’T possible for you?
What more can you get done every day?
Perhaps more importantly, what time might this free up for focusing on other things that most matter?
Yes, I know this is complete fiction!
Because all the time people tell me I’ll never achieve my 100% ultimate day.
But in a world that accepts us humans only use 10% of our potential…
Wouldn’t you prefer to target perfection, even if it means accepting something way beyond the average?
Engineer your days for flow
Research says the flow state to be the peak state for human performance and happiness.
And in 21 years of researching these topics, I’ve come to agree.
Where the research is completely USELESS, however, is that nobody ever teaches you how to actually do this!
So, great, right, you know you could unleash that 90% of your potential that is distracted away.
