He must be killed off in September.
Excuse the dramatic language but it feels right to say.
Not because I have anything against this August Man I spent the month building as I wrote you about here.
But why stop here?
The calendar moves on, and so are we.
Last week I saw something I’ve never seen in my own personal development.
In the past I’ve focused on developing as a continuous pursuit.
Pages and pages of daily exercises.
Hours and hours a day of mental conditioning, and bathing the mind deeply in flow states.
Daily skills training.
These continuous practices have MASSIVELY paid off for me.
Yet working towards specific development goals building August Man unlocked something new in me.
With some of you we geek out on this topic for hours when we talk.
It is perhaps the single most important topic in all success, development, and human evolution.
At the highest levels identity is the woo-woo stuff. (e.g. I am non-dual awareness having this experience as Geoff Blades)
Yet at a very practical level, your identity, who you perceive yourself to be, drives every single thought you have and action you will ever take. (or not take)
Henry Ford said, “Whether you think you can or think you cannot you’re right.”
Meaning this definition of “you,” the identity you form, completely governs what is possible for you.
The holy grail of change work is identity-level change, such as say shifting someone from having the identity of a smoker to a non-smoker, or an overweight to healthy person.
A reason this level change is so exalted is immediately you can become anew.
You only live twice
A metaphor the esoterics use is to die twice.
Meaning, for you to become who you are destined to be, first you must kill off that old you.
The ancient Egyptians were obsessed with death, and transforming in this life.
Higher order Masons do rituals in caskets.
The Weeknd in Starboy suffocates the old version of him with his old hairdo at the start of the video.
“To be a Phoenix,” my buddy Kamal Ravikant wrote, “First you gotta burn.”
Rise September Man (or Woman)
There’s two things I’m doing here that I’ve never done before.
First, I’m doing a back-to-back upgrade on this person formerly known as August Man, to build September Man.
I’ve never worked monthly developing goals like this, but it feels right so that’s what we’re doing.
And I mean WE because I’m going to be doing it with you.
I’m gonna open the kimono on what specifically I’m doing in a way that you can do it too.
So if you’re looking to upgrade your good self into September Man or Woman, let’s do this together!
Time is running out, my friend.
Whatever you intend to do, now is your time.
