A client had a huge breakthrough this week.
Something we’ve been working on for a while really clicked in him.
It’s f’n cool to see.
When after all the ways we’ve been triggering this, boom!
He could see exactly what he needs to do.
That’s the hardest thing
Knowing what to do.
Meaning, if you have a job and your boss says to you—do these 5 things and you will succeed.
OK, well, that can still be hard, because these things might be hard to do.
But by far the harder thing to winning is when you have no clue what to do.
When you’re looking at your goals, and you literally have no idea how to win at them.
See, a lot of the time I talk about pro athletes, but in some ways that’s an easy game.
The hardest games
Right, I mean, not to take anything away from Jordan or Tyson.
But, to be fair, one threw a ball in a hoop.
Another punched people until they couldn’t get up anymore.
Hardly rocket science there, right?
Now, of course there’s lots of nuances in these highly competitive games that make them hard to win.
So you never want to take anything away from someone who must give their all to succeed.
But still, games with much less defined rules are much harder to win.
The hardest game of uncertainty
This is the mind fc for humans.
Many people with a clear track and sufficient talent will succeed.
It’s simple.
You hardly need to be elite to make money working on Wall Street or Sand Hill.
Show up. Do a good job. Make your money. Feel like a winner.
Like throwing balls in a hoop it can be hard to do, but easy enough.
Which is why those people celebrate the ones who absolutely crush it.
And especially celebrate those who play their own game like Dimon or Dalio or Ackman or Roberts.
Because we all get what it takes to face massive uncertainty, and keep finding a way to win.
No matter what game you’re playing
The hard part to absolutely crushing your goals isn’t working hard.
Isn’t “keep doing what you’re doing.”
It’s figuring out, what does it TRULY take to win?
That’s first and foremost.
The next hard part as my client is very focused on, is…
OK, now you know the game…
You’re clear on what it takes to win…
How good can you get at actually winning??
btw, in my System for Winning, this is Step 2, Getting It, figuring out what it takes to win and continuously improving at how you win—here’s the free masterclass.
