It’s a getting a little gnarly, isn’t it?
The political landscape is fractured like the desert after a quake.
Violence is erupting worse than a summer blockbuster.
Abuse is spewing to the surface from many fissures; Church, Scouts, the global pedo network showing their heads.
Stock market is swelling and dropping, perhaps closing out.
You Doing OK?
In times like these we can all get tossed around, can’t we?
Some of us are directly affected.
Most of us are whipsawed by the media storm.
I’ve trained myself to block out that noisy global catastrophe.
But like I’m sure many of you, some people around me are being battered by the storm.
The Anchor Holds Despite The Storm
That’s a decal I have on my wall.
I’ve shared with you before that my place is filled with symbols and such messages.
Reminders that no matter what’s going on outside your walls.
Or inside your head.
You can fill your mind with ideas that help you not only weather…
But anchor firm in every storm.
I wasn’t born this way.
Like my knuckles calloused punching the bag, I forged my mind from the fragments left from my darkest storm.
Hard Boiled
The hardest time in my life I was Humpty Dumpty fallen of the wall.
My mind fractured.
Stretched beyond the seams, even years of mental training I could barely hold it together.
Tormenting me daily for years I feared I’d broken my head…
Only to discover that’s the price I paid for receiving the greatest gift of my life.
Cracking open the outer shell revealed what’s inside.
That person we think we are is fragile, breakable.
A mask, a thin veil of reality, as with band-aids and duct tape, we so desperately hold together.
Thinking we’re protecting our soft eggy core.
We never expose ourselves to the elements that make us strong for this big bad world.
Anti-Fragile
Is a title of a book people have told me is good.
I no longer read self-help books because I’m too busy training what they preach.
And often like Susan Jeffers fabulous book, Feel The Fear And Do It Anyway, the title gives you what you need.
We live in a world of increasing fragility…
Where names break us more than sticks and stones.
Globally connected, like the markets 100% correlated, we’re all get caught in the same storms.
There is no protecting ourselves from the big bad wolf blowing down our door.
But we can always be training ourselves stronger to thrive in every storm.
Gettin’ Strong Now
As I reached this point writing the Rocky song started playing in my head.
The only lyrics are—
Trying hard now
It’s so hard now
Trying hard now
Gettin’ strong now
Coming on, now
The Greatest Gift Of Our Lives
Can be beaten by the storm.
Cracking open that fragile shell reveals we are all so much more.
So much more than the person we think we are.
So much more than the storms that blow us around.
So much more than the wind of our noisy world.
We can anchor.
Be unwavering.
Unstoppable.
Training ourselves limitless in every storm.
