Imagine you’re looking to get in great shape.
Seeking to do everything you can, you hire a top personal trainer who designs a comprehensive program for you.
Perhaps it has you working out 4-6 days week.
Maybe you’re doing cardio 2-3 days.
Other days strength training.
Looking at the program you say, “That’s awesome.”
But knowing full well exercise is just one side to getting in great shape you ask, “Should we also focus on how I’m eating?”
“No, it doesn’t matter,” they say, “If you like you can eat Doritos all day.”
Says no trainer!!
Not only would a trainer never say this.
But no matter how good your exercise plan, you know you’d fail this way.
It simply doesn’t matter.
If you’re working out an hour and eating junk 15 hours a day, your shape reflects it.
And of course you know where I’m headed here—
Your mind is the same.
This is why I deleted news
Particularly some 10 years ago when this work was so hard for me.
And my mind already had enough worry, fear, overwhelm.
Cutting out the worst “news” of the world was about shifting as much time as I could to my goals.
But it was also about keeping your mind in the best possible place.
Now I get that we’re led to believe consuming media is being “informed.”
Yet if you’re focused on building your absolute best mind.
One that is positive, optimistic, energized, happy, secure, focused, driving towards what you truly want, etc.
Well, you hardly want to be gorging the worst of the world diet.
It’s also why I advanced beyond meditation
And hypnosis.
Back then when I was starting to go real deep into the mind I could see the futility.
For years before this I’d been doing these practices daily.
But now I could see even the best tools like hypnosis, meditation, affirmations, visualizations, and others we talked about in Performance Tools, aren’t enough.
30 minutes of affirmations.
An hour of hypnosis or meditation.
Or even, frankly, when I was doing 3-4 hours, and then 6-8 hours a day.
It was really good mental conditioning.
But even if you’re conditioning the mind hours a day, what about the other hours?
If you’re doing the mental equivalent of eating Doritos, you can hardly expect to build a strong mind.
It’s “practice”
I meet people who talk about meditation like it’s a “thing.”
They proudly talk about their 5 minutes or 30 minutes a day like that’s sufficient.
What often gets missed is that’s just the “practice.”
Like a pro athlete’s training session is just practice for the game.
Meditation, hypnosis, visualization, affirmations, and every other tool is merely practice for playing your game of life.
So if you’re using these tools for 30 minutes but the rest of the day are drowning in the monkey mind’s some 70,000 mostly negative, redundant thoughts…
Well, how much benefit do you actually expect?
A ton of benefit
Truthfully, that’s the answer.
Relative to the average person who has never even tried to train how they think and feel.
Well, relative to them, you’ll be getting tons of benefit.
But that’s like comparing an Olympic athlete to a couch potato.
And if you’re looking to be truly pro at the way you upgrade your mind, you want to come at it pro.
Like an Olympic athlete monitoring their eating and workouts continuously, you’re managing your mind the same way.
Every second
Monitoring those thoughts and feelings.
And shifting them to what you want.
Yes, I know this is extreme.
But I’m only interested in building the absolute best, most extreme methods I can imagine for living your most magical life.
And when it comes to this topic of conditioning your mind…
Well, the absolute best method, just like getting in great physical shape, is to be all over it, ATFT (all the f’n time).
That said, I get most people never want or need this.
The smallest amount of conditioning your mind can still massively pay off.
And here in Upgrade YOU, you decide what process is right for you.
YOUR mind upgrade process
The point of this third routine in upgrading your mind is you get to decide.
Just like you decide how you eat and exercise.
You decide what weekly, daily, and continuous practices are right for you.
As we’ve covered in this module on the Mind, there’s lots of ways you can do this.
Even a few minutes a day can be hugely beneficial relative to doing nothing.
You might even find that just cutting out mental Doritos might take you a long way.
So as you’re watching this video, use it to decide what is your right training process for upgrading your mind.
