Like most great spiritual teachers he’s a storyteller.
Often avoiding direct answers his stories convey what you need.
I met with him to discuss a leap I was making.
Back then I felt stuck.
There were moves I didn’t know how to make.
Things I wasn’t able to do.
I only knew to continue.
To Transform
After we met I sat in a filmed studio session he was hosting.
I don’t recall where he started but like a dream soon we had arrived here.
“Do you know the caterpillar doesn’t become a butterfly?” he provoked the audience.
When the caterpillar goes into its chrysalis it doesn’t know why.
It’s living its nature.
Building a protective shell encasing itself inside.
It cannot know why.
Nor what it will emerge to be.
Emerging A Butterfly
What that little caterpillar goes through inside only we can imagine.
Body torn apart and liquefied.
From its remains inside that chrysalis a new creature is born.
If you were to cut it open to watch its transformation you would end it.
The butterfly only emerges when its wings are strong enough to break the cocoon and take flight.
“And do you know the most magical thing about this transformation?” he asked.
The butterfly that emerges is a completely new creature.
With a different DNA.
The caterpillar has not transformed into the butterfly.
What went into its transformation chamber emerged something new.
Transforming Is Our Nature
It is living our destiny.
Is it brave of that little caterpillar to crawl into the darkness not knowing what happens inside?
Or is it nature for us to go into the unknown to transform into what we are destined to be?
This human life, what is it but a path of transforming?
From a single cell organism we emerged.
Lovable balls crawling on the floor we gave up the security of the ground to stand.
Left our mothers to learn in school.
Moved beyond the safety of our families to grow in the world.
Becoming our destiny we continue to transform.
Transform To Soar
Change can be hard for many of us, can’t it?
It can be scary to give up what we’ve got for what we don’t know.
Often we’ll even hold onto the bad rather than let go for the good.
And even when we’ve transformed good to great, it’s easy to stay in our comfort zone rather than continue to evolve.
Going into its chrysalis that little caterpillar has no idea what it’s in for.
Let alone that it will transform into a creature bred to soar!
