Flattering me, a business leader asked this week—
“Blades, you’re on the cutting edge, haha, what do you think of AI?”
“I don’t!” I calmly shrugged.
“I think of AI as little as I think about news,” which is never.
Everyone else is focused on that while I’m focused on the most important topics of being human.
AI is human
There is no such thing as “artificial intelligence.”
With our human intelligence we have birthed a tool and like a child it’s an extension of us we never control.
The terrible fearmongers want you to believe this tool will replace humans like apparently humans replaced Neanderthals.
Like Henry Ford put countless horses out of work they want you to believe humans will become a pet to this all powerful intelligence.
Maybe, all depends on this word, “intelligence.”
Intelligent?
If AI destroys us it is because of human “intelligence.”
Just like some 80 years later we’re still bombing each other over nukes threats from AI are a lack of human intelligence.
How probable are those bad outcomes? I don’t know, what probability did you place on a pandemic shutting down the world in 2020? With what probability will we nuke ourselves again in the future?
At our level of “intelligence” it’s anyone’s guess.
And then there’s the other side.
Utopia!
Us humans are a magical bunch, equally powerful in our creative destruction! I mean, just look at what we’ve achieved.
If you trust the science we evolved from a fish walking out of the sea through those Neanderthals losing our fur to reveal our good looking selves.
This weak, feeble animal that burns in the sun and needed to clothe in the fur of other animals to survive then rocketed itself to the moon and beyond!!
Not bad for an intelligent monkey, ha!? What have the other monkeys achieved over billions of years 🙂
With our “intelligence” we could clothe and feed every man, woman and child, take care of the animals and planet, and become the most magical species that perhaps ever sailed through galaxies!!
Evolving?
Is this what we will become? Are we evolving or devolving as a species?
Certainly we have evolved our capabilities but plenty of evidence suggests we are devolving intellectually.
Will AI be the final nail in the coffin for our primitive species or will it unleash the most magical we can be? Like nukes, who could know?
By the time it has happened it will be too late to know, won’t it? It’s like Morpheus says to Neo when first educating him on the origins of The Matrix—
“At some point in the early twenty-first century all of mankind was united in celebration. We marveled at our own magnificence as we gave birth to AI.”
You choose
How will all this play out for our species?
Again, if you believe any human can tell you the future then you haven’t been paying enough attention to the past. You only know one thing!
Countless humans are focused on that thing they call artificial intelligence but only one person can focus on the most important thing.
That’s you. And your human intelligence. Because no matter where this AI thing gets to it’s coming back to you.
AI is a tool of human intelligence. And your human intelligence is a tool of AI. How do you choose to use?
Intelligently!
A reason I pay zero attention to “news” and never think about AI is because it’s out of your control.
I’m obsessed with doing your best in your lifetime and all you ever control is every second how you’re using your human intelligence.
Many want you to believe the best use of your human intelligence is to live in fear of the future which is a devolution of the species.
Few are focused on best using your human intelligence for doing your best now and in all future nows.
Let them live in fear while you intelligently see AI comes back to you choose.
Back to you choose
In your short lifetime you can never evolve like that fish walking out from the sea or the homo sapien brain and body shrinking down from the furry Neanderthal.
But you can evolve the way you are using your brain. You can evolve your intelligence beyond the basic human world you’re birthed in.
If there is a threat from AI like the world-ending threat from nukes it is because us humans have failed to evolve our intelligence.
In the old days like 10 years ago I believed we as a species were on an upward trajectory evolving into the most magical beings.
Now I see this is a choice only you can make in whether you devolve like many or best choose to evolve your intelligence.
