This isn’t theory.
It’s your life, your best life.
That’s a problem with these topics.
It can come across like good sounding ideas.
But all that matters is what you do with it from here.
How?
See, a reason these topics are hard to write and talk about is because, duh!
It can all sound so obvious, can’t it?
That’s where I found myself stuck reading thousands of self-help books.
Set goals. Strong mindset. Take action. Develop skills. Keep improving.
Duh, what’s there even to talk about on this?
We all learned to walk and can just keep taking steps, right?
Sometimes…
Like I see with clients doing hard things sometimes it can be too hard just to do even the most obvious things.
It’s like I wrote about here on doing hard things, let me ask you:
If you are Orville Wright and you just broke your leg and ribs and suffered lifelong injuries killing your passenger crashing your flying machine after years and years just trying to get this thing flying, oh, while nearly everyone thinks you’re a lunatic for even trying, how good would you be at just dusting yourself off and getting back on the plane?
That’s what separates the many who never go for their dreams from the exceptional few.
It’s never easy doing hard things and you must love doing them over and over again!
Loving it
Even decades into this work I still keep getting stuck at the hardest things.
That’s the purpose of all this personal development for me doing everything you can to keep stepping forward doing your hardest things.
Many things are still too hard for me and some things I work on every day like perfecting mind are so hard I can’t achieve.
All the time people talk about expanding your comfort zone when instead you must learn to love being uncomfortable.
I’m not always good being uncomfortable but it’s been so hard for so long I’m conditioned to just keep stepping.
Why?
25 years ago when I began this work I had no idea what to do.
Before then I believed I’d be in my career at Goldman Sachs for the rest of my life.
I’d worked hard since I was a kid but nothing I had done in jobs or school or Wall Street had been too hard for me.
But now I was asking the hard questions like “How do you live the life you truly want?” I needed to find new answers.
Reading thousands of books on these topics I came across countless, literally millions and millions of amazing ideas, on how you do these hard things.
So what?
It’s just theory, isn’t it?
You can read about it, know about it, listen to podcasts of people talking about it, but that’s different to being able to actually do it, isn’t it?
It’s like weight loss.
What could be more obvious!?
Eat better, exercise more, duh!
Yet we have a massive industry of millions and millions of books and diets and experts and retreats and still we keep getting fatter and fatter.
Action
If you love rolling around in theory it’s heavenly.
But if you’re just looking for the actual solution for how you go from where you are to what you truly want you can waste your entire life seeking.
Not just coz you might never find your answers in the billions of ideas out there but because you always find your answers here:
In action.
In keeping stepping.
Keep stepping
This is where the sole hits the pavement on these topics.
Where it gets tricky and often overly complicated is actually doing!
You might not know your target, which is where this work began for me. Might not know what actions to take. Or be good enough at taking them. Or able to get yourself taking them.
If you don’t know what you want, make this the target. Don’t know what to do? Just do something! Feeling stuck in taking a step. Set a timer, take it.
Just keep stepping.
