Imagine your favorite athlete right before competing.
How do you imagine them being?
What mental picture do you have of them?
How do they look?
What’s the feeling they’re “broadcasting?”
Which words would you use to describe them?
Maybe words like
Focused.
Certain.
Energized.
Motivated.
Prepared.
To have made it to their level.
And to compete at the highest levels.
You can NEVER compete any other way.
Now think about YOUR day
Perhaps you’re thinking about your sport or workout.
Who are you showing up here?
How much do you resemble your favorite athlete?
What words describe the way you go after it?
How about in your business or career?
Which “YOU” is showing up here?
What words would you use to describe yourself here?
How game ready are you relative to your favorite athlete?
If they were an athlete in your business, how well would you compete?
“Ahead of the game”
Is a phrase a client uses.
For him it’s the feeling—You’ve got this.
It came from one of his buddies who was a pro footballer.
Training with him he described how things can change so quickly in a game.
So just like driving a car scanning what’s around you…
Playing, you’re always prepared for what might happen.
Not just responding to what did happen!
But like Gretsky skating to where the puck is headed, playing ahead of the game.
It’s the greatest feeling but also you see the flipside too, right?
“Feeling behind the game”
That’s when we mostly talk about being ahead of the game…
Meaning, when he’s NOT feeling it!
He’s feeling more overwhelmed.
Like he’s got way too much on his plate.
Too much to do.
Behind.
Or like that pro athlete, he’s not showing up his best prepared to take control of the game.
Maybe it’s sleep. Nutrition.
Other things going on in his mind or life.
Our best methods need tweaking.
Whatever it is, our job is to best pull the LEVERS we can.
And as quickly as possible get him back ahead of the game.
Being a pro business athlete
This is how I’ve CLEARLY come to see it.
Although I’m never a spectator of sports, I’m way into how pros show up best prepared to compete at the highest levels.
Often in business people talk about being a “top athlete.”
Yet RARELY do you meet people who ACTUALLY show up this way.
Few people ever even do ANYTHING to improve!
Let alone, like a pro athlete, are maniacally focused on best showing up every day.
Truth is, nearly everyone is playing amateur.
Like a weekend golfer, some of them are exceptionally good at it.
Yet, when you’re showing up pro—
- Getting your mind into your best game
- Laying out your day for crushing it
- Continuously improving your processes and skills…
You have an UNFAIR advantage
Think back to where we started on your favorite athlete.
If you were to compete with them in their sport, how would you do?!!
Now think of people TRYING to compete with you in business the same way!
I say this advantage is “UNFAIR” because most people NEVER even know the people who outcompete them operate this way…
They think they’re just showing up like they are.
With no idea how serious some business athletes are about training and playing their best game.
And here’s the KEY.
Just like a pro athlete…
The smallest tweaks can MASSIVELY improve your game.
What tweaks might you make?
Can you think of any?
Perhaps a small tweak to get yourself feeling more and more game ready?
Anything you’d change in your daily process, such as how much intent and intensity you bring to your day?
Methods and skills you can upgrade?
Anything else that might drive your best process and results?
