How are you doing?
I want to share with you something real simple I’ve been deep in this week.
It’s for getting yourself feeling your absolute best.
You might see this as a valid goal in itself.
Coz, let’s face it, if you can feel 7 out of 10, or 10 out of 10, how do you want to feel?
But I’ve been using it more to drive what for me is a very hard goal.
There’s something about the brain…
That is full of trickery.
In some ways I think it is set up to deceive you.
Yet in other ways this deception is all part of the play.
Meaning, if you just woke up every day and had everything you want and your life was absolutely grand, well, how would you be?
It’s a bit of a trick question, isn’t it?
Coz on the one hand you might say, well I’d be chilling, I’d lack motivation.
But then on the other hand you might say I’d be fired up to just be living this life.
Use this for your goals
A problem for many of us on happiness and achieving goals is…
You feel a sense of lack.
That brain of yours believes that something is missing from your life.
And if, just, if only, you could get that thing then you’ll feel on top of the world.
This can be a good deception on the part of your brain because it might lead you to push, push, push, to make something happen.
Yet it can be a “bad” deception because as you know, even when you get that thing that you thought would lead you to feel on top of the world, well, now that feeling of lack is still there, and the brain thinks it needs that next thing.
This is the Getting There Program.
It can keep you moving, but also keep moving the goal posts.
This can massively hold you back
Not just in terms of never feeling the 10 out of 10 you deserve to feel.
But also in limiting your top performance for lots of reasons.
One reason is, if you really really need something, it can ruin your game.
Think about the desperate salesperson who pushes a prospect away.
Or a pro athlete who is fearful of making a mistake and losing, never finds their rhythm.
Even consider the context of meeting a man or woman you want to know, from a place of lack, or scarcity, how do you talk to that person relative to if you already have a bunch of amazing men and women in your life?
See, the point I’m trying to make is that it can cut both ways.
Living in lack can serve you, and so too can feeling as amazing as you want to feel.
Which is why these topics are nuanced and you want to design what works best for you.
Live in the end state
This is what I perceive works best for me.
A reason is because I’m always on. I never need the fear or whatnot to motivate me, because I’m born to drive.
But then, if I live in a feeling of lack, not only does it feel so-so, but it also limits the “power” I drive into my work.
So, over a long period of time I’ve trained myself to live in the so-called end state. (see this is part of the trickery, that even after years of doing this, it’s still not easy for me to train!!)
Meaning, when all of your goals are done, and your life is your most amazing, how do you feel?
And here’s the nuance to this.
It can never be kindof.
Must be complete
Meaning, you want it to feel as real to your brain as if someone said to me—well, how would it be to live in New York?
I’d be like what are you talking about?
I live in New York.
That’s where affirmations fail, because people are trying to convince their brain of something that isn’t “real.”
Whereas what we’re saying here is, making it so real in your brain by accessing how it TRULY feels.
So, think of a goal of yours now.
No matter what it is, in your brain, the feeling will be something like it is out in front of you.
Like there’s things you need to do.
Risk it might not happen.
And then, beyond all that stuff there is a simple feeling.
When you have achieved this goal, how do you feel?
Again, not kindof.
But, really, how do you feel?
Now practice living here
Again, I mean really practice.
Like Jordan practicing to land shot after shot, he lives in the feeling that when he takes it he lands the shot.
What about you?
When you think of this goal of yours, is your brain and body in the feeling that you’ve got this?
Or is it something that maybe, hopefully, if you do all of these things, you might pull it off, and then wow, perhaps you’ll feel that 10 out of 10?
Relative to that, how do you feel practicing your 10 out of 10 now?
Crap, I thought I was going to keep this real short for you.
But hopefully you see it’s real simple.
Just one thing—practicing living in the feeling you’ve already got what you want!!
