A client has an enormous opportunity in front of him.
But with enormous opportunity often comes an enormous challenge.
“There are steps I want to be taking,” he said “but I find it hard to get myself to do it.”
Perhaps like me you’ve faced the same type of problem?
He’s never procrastinated before.
Has a massive “why” for getting it done.
Yet it can be hard, can’t it, to take those most important steps that propel you forward.
The Resistance We Face
You may have seen me write about this topic before.
Over the years I’ve talked a lot about the ways we can get stuck in our massive goals.
See, the more important the task.
The bigger the opportunity.
Often, the more you want it.
The more likely it is that your brain throws roadblocks in your way.
Fear of failure. Fear of success. Fear of getting it wrong.
Such things can cause you to resist taking actions that lead to what you want.
AI Faces No Such Resistance
A billionaire entrepreneur asked me, “Have you seen the way AI quickly masters a game?”
He said it doesn’t matter whether the game is Kong or Chess or Go, AI wins the same way.
It just makes moves.
Tries everything.
Of course like any human learning at first it makes tons of mistakes.
This move it loses. That move it fails. Another move the character dies.
Yet unlike a human learning, AI faces no resistance to failure.
Instead of stepping back and thinking…
Am I ever going to succeed at this?
What might go wrong if I do this or that?
It simply runs cycles.
Testing over and over again, running cycles without wasting time in between, it learns at a rapid rate.
“So that within 15 minutes,” he said, “It could beat basically any human at any game.”
“But I’m Not A Robot”
My client said to me.
“When I make a move and it fails I question myself.”
“When I put on a big ask, and I get shot down, I spend hours thinking about what went wrong.”
“That’s healthy,” I said to him.
There’s lots of power that comes from being self-aware… (Number 5 being truly alive!).
Yet, imagine you could just cut those cycle times down?
Instead of over-thinking it, you could, just like a kid learning to ride a bike, get back up a little faster, and ride?
“Can you imagine if you could cut out all that thinking and just keep playing, how much more productive you’d be?”
If you could iterate more cycles, how much faster would you get better at winning your game?
The Best Of Both Intelligence
Is being able to step back and apply your self-awareness.
So unlike AI you don’t have to keep learning by running the car into a different wall.
But like AI you learn rapidly by cutting out all that over-thinking.
All that resisting.
And simply run more cycles at winning your game.
This is the point of being highly systematic.
So you have a method for winning and you just keep iterating your game.
btw, this is what my Daft Punk robot-styled Masterclass for Harder Better Faster Stronger is built to do quickly for you.
