Have you learned things in life that have changed so much for you?
Of course I know you have, and here I’m trying to get specific with you.
That some or even just 1 of these things might have fundamentally changed you and your life.
You were just going along as you had been.
Like you used to think or feel or behave a certain way.
And then you learned some or just 1 thing that changed you forever.
Perhaps rapidly.
This is 1
1 thing I struggle with in all of my work is how to convey it.
There are things that I’ve come to know that I can’t say how I know.
Or there are things that have been so fundamentally transforming for me but I don’t know how to get the message across.
A problem is that these concepts can all seem to make sense at a certain level.
You think that you really get it.
And then, some thing clicks in a way that you REALLY get it.
It’s like a deepening or insight or knowing.
Once you get this, everything changes.
And it can be the same for ALL humanity.
1 hope for humanity
A reason that The Simulation—Level 1 matters so much to me is because I see it is the 1 HOPE for humanity.
Now, I’m never suggesting that Geoff Blades and what “I’ve” built is the 1 hope.
You know that I am merely a vessel for this knowledge, I am nothing more than future fish food trying to convey what I perceive matters most to all of us.
And I perceive that the 1 and ONLY thing that can save our species from destroying ourselves is evolving our consciousness.
This is a reason I’m working around the clock 7 days a week with such urgency.
See, if we were an evolving species we’d all know this 1 thing I’m sharing with you here.
And it could rapidly transform humanity.
1 thing
I have discovered things about us humans, our lives, and our world that I feel I must share.
A problem I face is that I perceive it’s dangerous to talk publicly about these things.
Many people are closed anyways.
And even if I personally think these are the most important topics in our lives and for humanity, who cares what I think?
Ultimately, this comes back to you and how and why these things are valuable in your life.
And this 1 thing I SIMPLY CANNOT see how it’s not fundamentally transforming for each and every single one of us.
All of our problems
And I mean ALL of them come back to this 1 thing.
On a planetary level it is the source of all these disastrous outcomes.
At an individual level, it’s what is going on inside each of our bodies and brains.
What I’m sharing is the opposite of some useless theory or philosophy.
These are practical topics that are 100% provable in your experience right now.
You are experiencing this 1 thing every moment.
This 1 thing might be crucial in helping build your knowledge and awareness of what is REALLY going on inside you.
And how you live your best life, thinking your best, feeling your best, and taking your best actions.
I’ll share with you that this 1 thing has been so transforming for me because I thought I already got this concept.
But once I REALLY got it, everything changed, rapidly.
“Not your thoughts”
“You are not your thoughts” or “You are more than what you think” is one of the most fundamental teachings in all topics of the brain and philosophy of mind.
There’s lots of ways that you can EASILY convince yourself of this.
For instance, your thoughts are constantly bouncing around from one thing to another, aren’t they?
When one of them comes or goes, do “you” come or go?
Or is it more like you are “aware” of these thoughts that are happening inside you?
Just like that hair growing on top of your head, these thoughts are automatically happening in you.
As a teacher asks, “When you leave hair behind at the salon, do you get left behind?”
Of course not.
We all get that you are NOT that hair you’re leaving behind at the salon in the same way you are more than your heart pumping blood keeping you alive.
Just the same, you are more than your thoughts.
They are merely happening in you, and you get to choose.
“Choose your thoughts”
See, this is where it used to be confusing for me.
I don’t know how many countless times I had come across the knowledge that you are more than your thoughts.
Or I had said it myself.
And then I’d gone on to yammer about how you can choose your thoughts.
You can.
In fact, it is the ONLY thing that you can ever “control.”
For many years I got this, I know how to do it, I could help people learn to do it.
But there was still something missing in my understanding.
This ALL became clear when I REALLY got this 1 thing.
Not “thoughts”
Here in this article on the Definition of Insanity where I went a bit rogue on some of the disastrous things we’re doing as a species, I revealed something so important on these topics.
I won’t rehash the teaching here, but ultimately I pointed out that so-called “inner voice” in your head is not a voice at all.
“Where are its vocal cords?” I wrote.
Of course that voice in your head lacks vocal cords, doesn’t it?
So it’s never a “voice” by traditional standards, and labeling it as such was just one layer of confusion for me here.
What is it?
It’s your brain interpreting signals, using your language center to convert these signals to words. (or, btw, there are other esoteric ways of explaining this, such as it is more like a radio signal you’re receiving)
But, no matter the source, how do you know that your brain is conveying to you “valid” thoughts?
None of us believe everything that we think, or that other people think, do we?
Also, if you’ve studied non-verbal communications, you know that words only convey some 7% of your message and what matters most is the “quality” of the voice.
So when that inner voice is communicating with “you,” how is it choosing this voice quality?
And WHO’S “thoughts” are these anyway?
“De-I-dentifying”
Now, before I keep moving let me just point out that many people have more pictures than that inner voice in their heads.
Again, like MOST things that matter most in your life, you’re never taught for one single minute what is going on in your head, so most of us never even know these fundamental truths.
We apparently don’t know why some of us are more auditory or visually dominant in our internal processing of thinking.
But what you do know with absolute certainty is your own internal experience of thinking.
Kind of
Another reason this is VERY hard for many of us is because we lack awareness to discern what is happening in our internal processing.
Unless you’ve studied knowledge schools such as Vedanta, or trained these things using powerful tools like hypnosis or to a much lesser degree meditation, you can be completely “asleep” inside your “thinking machine.”
In the eastern religions they refer to this as “identification,” or as I like to write it “I-dentification.”
That’s us humans running around all day every day saying “I” think this or that, “I-dentifying” with the “thoughts” of the automatic thinking machine.
That’s basically the equivalent of you running around the salon picking up your hair because you think it’s “you.”
When you’re identified with those thoughts you lack the awareness that they are merely happening inside you.
Let alone the ability to separate “you” from those thoughts.
Nor to consciously choose your thinking.
The 1 thing
And now, after all this setup we’re ready for this 1 thing.
Because it was so fundamentally transforming for me and it may be for you too.
It’s the confusion of this word “thoughts.”
See, and I’m being VERY specific here, this is what REALLY opened up this door for me.
Because for many years I knew that you are NOT your thoughts.
I knew I was more than that thinking brain and that you can consciously choose your “thoughts” but I was still confused about this 1 thing.
If you are choosing your thoughts, then why do you have this incessant stream of thinking happening in your head?
TRULY, if it’s possible for you to choose your thoughts, then why wouldn’t we all shut off that so-called “monkey mind” that is constantly bouncing around from one thing to another inside your head?
Because you never can, nor would you want to when you know how to get it best working for you.
This comes back to seeing those “thoughts” are different to “conscious thinking.”
“Automatic brain chatter”
Now, this is THE 1 piece of knowledge that would have been so transforming for me.
It is LITERALLY as simple as having a different label.
When you have this knowledge and understanding it’s SO OBVIOUS what is going on inside the human.
Why people suffer from anxiety or depression or lack of focus or any other number of ailments that our “Doctors” have no clue how to actually “solve.”
Most of them can be EASILY solved by understanding what is REALLY going on inside our bodies and brains.
Once you have this understanding it is so much easier for you to consciously choose your “thoughts.”
This 1 thing is having distinct labels for “thinking.”
In our school of transformation, Rapid Sustained Transformation (RST), we make a clear distinction of “conscious thinking,” which is thinking that you are using your conscious brain to choose.
This is in contrast to what our world typically labels “thinking” or “thoughts” that we refer to as “automatic brain chatter,” or “automatic thoughts.”
Choosing your thoughts
I won’t claim that I discovered this concept.
It came to me from many different forms of teachings.
I’d iterated this idea for years, but when it clicked, it REALLY clicked in me.
This thing that we call “thinking,” where people say “you are not your thoughts,” that in the past I could easily see was like leaving your hair behind at the salon, now I could see clearly.
Of course that’s different to “conscious thinking.”
All that “thinking” is just happening automatically, isn’t it?
Meaning, you aren’t right now consciously choosing for your brain to bounce around from one thing to another, are you?
That’s happening automatically.
The act of conscious thinking is you “knowing” this and being able to navigate the automatic brain chatter to consciously choose.
This is the process of consciously choosing your thoughts.
It becomes far more obvious when you see the rest of it is merely automatic brain chatter of an automatic thinking machine.
A new model
In developing RST I’ve committed heresy.
I’ve discarded most of the common labels that we use for the brain and for this thing called “thinking.”
This is because I’ve seen it’s either deliberately or inadvertently, EXTREMELY confusing.
When what should be made more simple than what matters MOST to how you’re experiencing EVERY second of your life?
An example is that I’ve stopped using the word “mind.”
There are nuances between what “mind” means relative to “brain.” (e.g. mind is awareness for operating the brain)
Yet these labels just add confusion to something that is already confusing, but could be incredibly SIMPLE.
The “unconscious mind” is another one.
Having become deeply obsessed with unconscious programming and schools of unconscious transformation this could be a harder label to discard for me, but it’s been easy.
That’s because I’m seeking the best ways of labeling these things that makes it as simple and easy as possible for you to do.
So rather than calling it this highly ill-defined thing called an “unconscious mind,” we simply refer to automatic brain chatter, or automatic thinking, from your automatic brain.
Automatic brain
The “unconscious mind” is a confusing concept, even for master hypnotists I know.
But when you see that you simply have an automatic brain that is automatically functioning and is automatically chattering, well now it becomes more obvious.
Take for instance why it can be so hard to change a habit.
The best we have is the oh-so-scientific wisdom that it takes 21 days to change.
Why?
What does this even mean?
Well, there’s lots of deep meanings around this, but through this lens of the automatic brain you see it simply.
That brain of yours is functioning automatically.
It’s automatically running its old, conditioned programming, just like a computer runs its installed software.
And you get to consciously choose.
Pumping blood
In the same way that you are never consciously choosing to beat your heart and pump your blood your automatic brain is “thinking.”
Meaning, to be specific here, there is nothing that you consciously do or need to do for it to be automatically having “thoughts.”
Being conscious you have a window to observe this most incredible thinking “computer” communicating with itself ruminating some 70,000 “automatic thoughts” a day.
And when you know it’s automatic, and you have a different label for this automatic brain chatter relative to consciously choosing your “thoughts,” all this can be so much more simple and accessible for you.
You see that the automatic brain automates things that you do repeatedly (or otherwise condition), so you no longer have to consciously remember how to say drive a car every time you sit behind the wheel.
Habits enormously serve you because you never need to consciously think about them.
But too, they are near impossible for many of us to change because we “think” that we’re the ones “choosing” those “thoughts” that lead to that habit “you” want to change.
This becomes far easier when you can clearly distinguish between that automatic brain chatter and you consciously choosing your thinking.
Evolving species?
So you see my point is that an evolving species would live this way.
Rather that living in a get smart world of chaos and control you’d be surrounded by conscious, evolved human beings.
We’d never again get fooled by that deluge of automatic mental chatter in your head because you’d know it’s just your automatic brain doing its thing.
If we were trained to use our brains how they are engineered, these are the most magical machines for living your most magical life.
That automatic brain is like google constantly serving you suggested thoughts.
As a conscious “operator,” you get to choose.
The more you do this the more you’re being conscious.
Whereas confusing that automatic brain chatter as you and your thoughts is being asleep.
As we keep unpacking The Simulation—Level 1 you’ll hear me keep saying that this lack of consciousness is THE 1 thing causing ALL problems for our species.
Too this is 1 thing that could rapidly transform us into the most magical species.
Being awake
The lie of consciousness.
This veil of consciousness that keeps so many of us humans blinded from truth is that we are living consciously.
Unfortunately, this couldn’t be further from truth.
Few of us humans have been taught how to best use our consciousness.
Instead, humanity is kept deeply asleep so you can be controlled by your automatic programming.
We’ve been manipulated into thinking that having awareness of that automatic brain chatter is being conscious.
It is, in a limited way.
But living consciously is ACTUALLY living this way.
It is developing the knowledge, will and skill for consciously choosing your thoughts.
This 1 thing can take you and our species a LONG way.
It would even transform ALL humanity.
