Winning loves speed.
Because winning loves momentum.
Speed is momentum and ferociousness for getting things done.
It gets things moving, keeps things moving, willing things to happen start to finish.
Are you getting things done with speed?
Do faster?
Time is most often a constraint, isn’t it? Ask, what can you do faster?
Ask yourself this because it gets you thinking about your time in certain ways.
We all know time is your most precious resource and nobody is handing you more time you want and need.
Like I chuckle thinking of this story I heard of a banking executive who lacked time but wanted to help people and would stack up on one day a month all these calls with people who reached out for advice and then he’d get them done with his monthly office keeping chores all on the same one day.
How else would he find the time? You can’t get more time but you can compress time and speed up.
What faster?
Had breakfast with a CEO client when he was visiting New York.
He only had 45 minutes then was headed uptown and then flying out to San Francisco.
He’s getting a lot of things done at the same time and never feels like he’s got enough time.
Building a business you never have enough time and you must focus on getting the right things done in the right ways at the right time.
What’s urgent? What’s important? What must be optimized? What can be satisficed? Delegated? Deleted?
Know what you can speed up, when, and why?
Winning faster
Winning bigger, faster is why for him. Why for you in speeding up time?
Like my buddy Adam always talks about in jiu-jitsu there’s one principle you’re looking to achieve fast as possible, getting to your opponent’s back.
How do you win faster in what you do? It’s like F1 legend Mario Andretti said, “If everything seems under control, you’re not going fast enough.”
Or Jeff Bezos who in building Amazon was obsessed with the mantra “Get Big Fast” and removing all friction.
Or an actress I worked with saw her career like a pro athlete, she had to make the most of her youthful years.
World faster
Speeding up also matters in a world speeding up. You’re seeing this aren’t you, like the cycle times are accelerating.
I don’t even know what this means but do know it’s a feeling of how much the world is quickly moving.
Now is your time in so many ways and there’s so many opportunities everywhere around the world.
It’s a scary time for some people and exciting for those going after it to keep speeding up.
The world is faster and we are faster.
Human faster
Humans are speeding up, and we don’t even have faster chips… yet!
The kids these days who grew up computer and AI native can do things that blow your mind.
Like my buddy told me his daughter did a powerpoint in hours that in our era would have taken a team at Goldman weeks to do.
In the old days what you knew might be relevant for decades now you must keep accelerating your learning and doing.
The world is speeding up, the human is speeding up, many will be left behind while you’re speeding up.
Speeding up
That’s what I feel.
Feel it in my bones and excitement in every cell the future is now and it’s speeding up.
You see rockets being launched like no big deal and robots walking around doing kung fu and some 850+ public figures signing a petition against developing AI which you know will keep speeding up.
Winning loves speed.
Keep speeding up.
