This week when I woke up to half a foot of fresh snow on my deck, like being a kid on Easter morning, I got so excited!
I feel this energy building up inside me.
My face is beaming.
I can barely hold myself back from rushing out there hours before the mountain even opens.
I believe this is the key to living a grand life.
For all the endless chatter on purpose and meaning, what really counts is, what are the things that excite you?
When you wake up in the morning, what gives you that elated feeling of being alive?
Is it seeing your partner?
Your pet? Your kids?
Is it getting excited about what you are doing today?
Is it something else that is happening in your life?
Is it turning on the tap and hot water coming out?
A lot of the time we think, but I have nothing special to be excited about today.
What about the fact that you are alive???
You are in the 6.5% of the humans that have ever been born that aren’t yet dead!!
Besides, how you feel has little to do with what is going on at all, let alone whether you have something special to be excited about.
How you feel has everything to do with how you think every day.
It won’t be Easter tomorrow, but can you imagine waking up feeling as excited as you were as a child?
You might say, “No, not really, because I’m going to work.”
So ask yourself: What can I think about that gets me feeling excited about my day?
You might say, “I don’t really know.”
You might say, “I can get a little more excited by thinking about this or that.”
So now ask yourself: How can I get even more excited?
If you are a six out of ten, how can you take your excitement to an eight?
What would you have to think?
What would you have to do with your body? How about jumping up and down pumping your hands in the air?
Forget about what is going on tomorrow, and simply start to believe that you can craft the thoughts that make your day feel exciting.
The question isn’t: Can I feel as excited as a kid on Easter when there is a bunch of fresh snow outside?
The question is: Can I get as excited when there is no snow outside, when there is nothing in particular to be excited about?
It’s not about what is going on around you but what you do in your mind that drives how you feel every day.
