For my buddy’s birthday, I wrote him: “Do something special for yourself.”
It’s a big theme with my private clients.
Birthdays come and go, but how often do we celebrate for ourselves?
For our success? For how much we give?
How often do we treat ourselves?
A friend of mine said to me that working with me would be weird because he spends money on his family, but he doesn’t really spend money on himself.
I get that, and it’s a good pattern to change!!
Really, think about it, how often do you surprise yourself with a gift?
Like you are walking past some store and you see something, and you just walk in and buy it.
One of my clients got a big bonus, and I hope she buys the fast car we’ve been talking about.
One of my friends bought himself a ticket to TED.
He loves that stuff and he wanted to treat himself to a special adventure.
That’s what it is about.
With one of my clients we’ve been figuring out ways he can reward himself for all of his hard work.
His job is hard. It is very hard. On a different continent each week.
And he works hard at it.
He has for decades.
No horse will keep pulling hard for decades if it doesn’t receive a carrot every day.
So we’ve been defining a series of things he can do to reward himself.
He’s not into stuff, so it’s not about buying a car or a boat or whatever.
He’s into time, so a reward for him is making more time for himself.
Not for his wife and his kids, but for him.
To do whatever he wants.
To go watch a movie. Or sit in the park and read a book. Whatever.
However, he feels he is rewarding himself for all of his hard work and success.
How do you?
What’s something special you can do for yourself?
