You might be aware of the bizarre tradition of Groundhog Day.
As it goes, the direction an imprisoned groundhog looks after being pulled from its burrow is a predictor of how long the winter will last.
Truth is often stranger than fiction.
And in this case, it’s hard to say!
The fiction I’m referring to is the movie Groundhog Day.
The day repeats
I recently watched this movie as one of my clients suggested it.
Together we’re focused on advanced topics of reality construction…
And some more common topics of perfecting his day.
“The movie is both,” he said.
It’s a story of reality construction because somehow Bill Murray’s character gets caught in a time loop that makes this one Groundhog Day repeat.
“The reason you’ll love the movie is because of what he does with it,” he said.
Perfecting your day
The movie never goes into the “mechanism” for how his day repeats.
This is in contrast to the Tom Cruise movie, Live, Die, Repeat.
Here, too, he’s forced to relive the day.
Only in his case that’s the plot of his violent movie, in that he has gained the invading aliens’ ability to reset the day.
This gives him an advantage to live the day over and over again.
Each time becoming more the perfect warrior for killing the aliens.
Whereas Murray’s version is about perfecting his day by…
Perfecting himself
Meaning, he’s not the greatest guy at the start of the movie.
And even through a number of iterations of his one Groundhog Day.
But, by the end he’s become his best self.
And, as these stories go, he’s won the heart of a woman who wanted little to do with him that first day.
It’s a fun enough movie, perhaps “installing” the idea of perfecting yourself for love.
But the deeper learning is what I watched it for!
Present in YOUR day
I know that many people aren’t into topics of reality construction.
To them what you see is what you get, and they might be entirely right.
The notions of multi-dimensional realities, heaven, hell, reality as simulation, and all that…
Might be complete bollocks.
Yet, what I know from decades researching these topics is that they ultimately come back to time.
Specifically, to stopping getting caught up in that time machine in your head.
And to be present in your day.
Perfecting YOUR day
Once you’re present in your day, well, you see…
This is YOUR life.
It’s ALL your life can ever be.
Literally, no matter how many years you live, you’ll never experience anything other than this moment in time.
So while our brains are incessantly thinking about every other moment in time…
Rarely are we even experiencing this day.
Let alone perfecting it.
Living your ultimate days
When I got really keyed into these topics it was for building my ultimate days.
Not just being efficient.
Or effective.
Getting stuff done.
Thinking and feeling your absolute best.
But, having a powerful method for doing this every day.
And, more importantly…
A method for continuously improving that enables you to do it better and better every day.
So, you’re not just having your ultimate day here or there.
But you have a method to optimize this day.
Which you then build upon, iterating every day, your ultimate day.
What’s your ultimate day?
If you woke up today like Bill Murray in Groundhog Day and you were living the same day over and over…
Would you even look to perfect it?
Of course many people never think of their days this way.
They’re still stuck in the Getting There Program, living for some future day.
Living each day like they’ll get a million more, they never give two thoughts to perfecting this day.
What about you?
Are you focused on perfecting your days?
If so, how?
What might you tweak today?
What, specifically, might you keep perfecting from here?
How you think? Feel? The actions you take?
We might not be like Bill Murray living this one Groundhog Day over and over…
But every day you can be making the small tweaks that perfect your ultimate days.
Anything you might tweak today?
